Marian women’s volleyball gears up for return home

Marian University women’s volleyball (1-10, 0-0 NACC) was defeated by St. Catherine in four sets; 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, and 25-21.

  • Each team had spurts of success in the opening set eventually leading to a 15-15 stalemate.
  • The Sabres then scored the next four points to take the lead for good.
  • The Wildcats cut their deficit down to 22-20, but Marian was able to score three of the final four points to take the set.
  • An early 5-1 run from SCU proved to be the difference in the second set as the Wildcats never trailed.
  • Marian was able to cut the lead down to two at 20-18 but SCU put Marian away with a 5-1 run.
  • The Wildcats scored the first seven points of the third set and never looked back to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • Similarly to the second set, SCU went on an 8-1 run early in the fourth to build a 14-6 lead.
  • Marian managed to cut the Wildcat lead down to three but couldn’t overcome the early spurt.

Senior Alana McDermott posted a match-high 23 digs, her third performance this season with at least 20 digs.
Sophomore Kaylie Engebose had 21 assists to go with two service aces.
