Marian women’s volleyball falls to Lakeland in five sets

Marian University women’s volleyball (11-9, 3-4 NACC) fell to Lakeland in a tough five set match by the scores 20-25, 23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 17-15.

  • Set one saw both teams trading points with the Sabres taking the advantage at 16-15. 
  • Marian would not surrender the lead after this point going on a 9-5 run to close out set one. 
  • The Sabres jumped out to a 7-5 lead in set two before Lakeland would crawl back in and tie up the score 8-8. 
  • After trading points with Lakeland taking the 20-17 advantage, Marian would go on a 8-3 run to with set two.
  • The Muskies would jump out to a commanding 12-5 lead in set three before going on a 13-6 run to easily take set two.
  • Set four was much of the same from the first two with both teams trading points to tie the score up 10-10.
  • After more back and fourth action the Muskies would take a 22-19 lead and force a Marian timeout. 
  • The Sabres went on to go on a short run of its own but it was not enough as the Muskies closed out set four.
  • The trend of close sets would continue through the fifth set with the teams being tied 15-15.
  • The Muskies would close out set five and take the match with a service ace.

  • Both offenses would record 50 kills but Lakeland had the had the advantage by forcing 31 Marian hitting errorss 
  • The Sabres held Lakeland to .170 hitting and under .100 in two of the five sets. 
  • Marian would record 50 kills in a match for the fourth time this season. 
  • The Sabre defense reached double digit blocks for the first time this season.

Senior Serina Pehowski led the Sabre offense with 17 kills on .290 hitting percentage. 
Senior Anna Tapia paced the Sabre offense with 39 assists and added three serving aces.
Sophomore Alana McDermott anchored the Sabre defense recording 13 total digs.
