Marian women’s volleyball earns first sweep of season

Marian University women’s volleyball (1-1, 0-0 NACC) earned its first win of the season defeating Macalester 25-10, 25-16, 25-22.

  • Marian took control of the opening set and led 14-10.
  • The Sabres then scored the next 11 points with senior Kaylie Engebose at the service line to take the opener in commanding fashion.
  • Macalester was able to take a 6-1 lead to begin the second set but Marian quickly erased that deficit with a 12-2 spurt.
  • The two sides toyed back and forth with big runs, but a strong finish from Marian saw the Sabres take a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 run.
  • Just like the second set, the Scots held an early 10-7 lead.
  • The Sabres then put together another long run scoring 12 of the next 14 points to lead 19-12.
  • The Marian deficit was trimmed down to one as late as 22-21, but Marian was able to put Macalester away scoring three of the final four points.

  • Marian held a 32-17 advantage for kills in the match with the Sabre defense forcing Macalester to hit negative for the match.
  • The Sabres had an especially strong performance at the service line with 14 aces.
  • The 14 aces is the most in a single match since Nov. 7, 2024.
  • Marian is 1-1 all-time against Macalester with this being the first meeting since 2012.
