Marian women’s volleyball defeats Lawrence in home finale

Marian University women’s volleyball (10-19, 3-9 NACC) reached double-digit wins with a four-set victory over Lawrence in the final home match of the season.

  • The opening set began with Marian holding a 10-8 lead before Lawrence scored six of the next seven points to lead by three.
  • Marian responded with an 11-3 spurt to retake the lead at 22-17.
  • The Vikings were able to trim their deficit down to two but a kill from sophomore Olivia Buol sealed the set.
  • Marian started the second set with an 8-7 advantage before going on a 7-1 run to lead 15-8.
  • Lawrence managed to pull to within four but Marian then scored the next seven points to lead 23-12 and eventually take the set.
  • The Vikings opened the third with a 6-1 lead and held a significant lead out to 22-15.
  • Marian didn’t go away quietly scoring six unanswered points to only trail one but Lawrence was able to take three of the next four to clinch the set.
  • The Sabres bounced back in the fourth leading 6-4 before going on a 12-2 run to lead 18-6.
  • Lawrence fought off four match-point chances before the fifth match-point saw freshman Kaylie Engebose end the match with a kill.

  • Marian finished with a 47-34 advantage for kills and 51-45 edge for digs.
  • The Sabres had 11 service aces, their ninth match this season with double-digit aces.
  • Marian improves to 16-20 all-time against Lawrence with wins in the last three matches.

Sophomore Ryanne Jasica had her 10th double-double of the campaign with 14 kills to go with 10 digs.  She also hit .321 in the match.
Junior Alana McDermott posted a match-high 13 digs and had three service aces.
Junior Harley Bartels filled the stat sheet posting nine kills, five total blocks, and three service
