Marian women’s volleyball cruises past MSOE in sweep

Marian University women’s volleyball (7-5, 1-1 NACC) swept MSOE 25-20, 25-17, and 25-13 for its first NACC win of the season.

  • Marian wasted no time jumping ahead of MSOE scoring the first six points of the match.
  • The Raiders were able to trim the deficit down to two at 15-13 before Marian pulled ahead with a 5-1 run.
  • MSOE didn’t go away quietly scoring four unanswered to once again trail by only two at 20-18.
  • Marian brought its lead out to 22-20 before scoring three straight to finish off the set.
  • The second set had a similar start with Marian jumping ahead 9-4.
  • The Raiders bounced back from the slow start trailing just 19-17 late in the set.
  • Marian emphatically ended the set with six unanswered points where four of the points were kills.
  • Marian held a slim 8-7 lead to start the third, but the Sabres made sure to not let MSOE linger using a 13-1 spurt to go ahead 21-8 and cruise to the sweep.

  • The Marian offense only got stronger as the match went along finishing with a 37-18 edge in kills and hitting .284.  Marian had 14 kills in the second set and 16 more in the third.
  • The Sabre defense caused 22 MSOE attack errors and held the Raiders to a -.043 attack percentage.
  • Marian improves to 8-2 against MSOE over the last 10 match-ups with four of those wins being sweeps.
  • The Sabres have now posted four consecutive sweeps for the first time since 2001.

Senior Kaitlyn Merrill had 10 kills off of a .500 hitting percentage to go with seven digs.
Senior Serina Pehowski also had 10 kills off of a .500 hitting percentage along with three assisted blocks.
Sophomore Alana McDermott paced the Sabre back row with a match-high 15 digs.
