Marian women’s volleyball cruises past Dominican

Marian University women’s volleyball (11-8, 3-3 NACC) handled Dominican on it’s way to dominant victory in three sets 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.

  • Dominican came out of the gates quickly with a 5-1 run in set one but the Sabres answered back on a 9-3 run to take the lead.
  • Marian would easily take set one behind a 15-8 run to end the set.
  • The Sabres used the momentum from set one to jump out to a 11-6 advantage.
  • Marian saw it’s lead grow as large as ten points behind a 10-5 run to put the Sabres up 21-11 in set two before closing out the set.
  • The third set saw the two teams trading points with Dominican taking a 7-6 advantage. 
  • After the Stars took the lead 7-6 Marian would go on a convincing 11-3 run followed up by a 8-4 run to close out the match.

  • Marian recorded double digit kills in all three sets while holding the stars to single digit kills in all three sets while hitting .067.
  • The Sabres only committed seven errors while forcing 15 Dominican hitting errors. 
  • The Sabres led in every statistical category with a 41-22 advantage in kills.
  • This win marks the first time since 2005 Marian has defeated Dominican on the road.

Senior Kaitlyn Merrill recorded a game-high 13 kills behind an impressive .542 hitting percentage.
Senior Anna Tapia paced the Sabre offense with 21 assists while adding five kills and four digs.
Senior Reagan Jasica led the Sabres from the service line with three aces and added five digs.
