Marian women’s volleyball bounces back with sweep over CUC

 Marian University women’s volleyball (14-10, 6-5 NACC) sweeps Concordia University of Chicago 25-15, 25-23, and 26-24.

  • The Sabres jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead to start set one.
  • Marian would not let up the momentum behind a 9-4 run to extend its lead. 
  • The remainder of set one would see both teams trading points with CUC holding the advantage 11-10 but the Sabres were able to take set one.
  • Marian opened set two with a quick 3-0 run but CUC answered on a 4-0 run of its own to take its first lead of the night.
  • After a tie at 10-10 neither team would extend its lead larger than two but the Sabres would take the slim advantage 15-13 to take set two.
  • Set three started off in similar fashion as set two with the teams trading points to start the game 5-5.
  • CUC would jump out to a 13-10 lead behind a couple Sabre attacking errors.
  • The Sabres would climb back in and take the lead at 16-15 behind a 6-2 run.
  • Marian ended the game with a slim advantage 10-9 and would take the game behind two Sabre kills after being tied 24-24.

  • Marian held the advantage in kills 35-29 and hitting percentage .186 to the Cougars .063.
  • The Sabres were held under 10 kills in the first and second set but forced 18 CUC attacking errors.
  • Each team would record seven aces but the Sabres led in every other statistical category.

Senior Serina Pehowski had a dominant day on offense with a game high 11 kills on .333 hitting percentage.
Senior Anna Tapia paced the Marian offense with 29 assists and added nine digs. 
Senior Andrea Miller led the Sabre defense with 11 digs.
