Marian women’s tennis sweeps Alverno on Senior Day

Marian University women’s tennis (1-8, 1-6 NACC) earned its first win of the season defeating Alverno 9-0.

  • Marian was able to jump ahead early taking all three doubles matches only dropping six games along the way.
  • Hazel Duchemin and Abby Okon earned an 8-1 win at the No. 2 flight, and Aeryn Olson teamed up with Kendall Pliner to take the top flight 8-2.
  • Melana Brunton and Josephine Bruch closed out the 3-0 start with an 8-3 win at No. 3.
  • The Sabres continued that momentum taking all six singles matches with five coming in just two sets.
  • Pliner didn’t drop a game with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5.
  • Brunton had a strong showing at No. 3 dropping only one game in each set, while Olson won a tiebreak in the first set and won the second 6-1 at the top flight.
  • A 6-2, 6-3 score saw Bruch win the No. 6 spot, and Duchemin took the No. 4 spot 6-4, 6-3.
  • Okon needed to go three sets at the No. 2 flight but won the third 10-8 to complete the sweep.
