Marian women’s soccer settles for draw against CUW

Marian University women’s soccer (7-3-4, 6-2-1 NACC) earned a result against CUW for the first time since 2014 with a 1-1 draw.

  • The Falcons controlled the game early but Marian was able to strike quickly.
  • Junior Abby Larson opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with her fifth goal of the season with an assist from freshman Emily Gordillo.
  • Larson was able to take advantage of the Falcon keeper being out of position and beating her far post from the left side of the box.
  • The Larson goal stood the rest of the half as the two squads headed into the break tied 1-1.
  • The two defenses stood tall for most of the second half.
  • The Falcons were able to find an equalizer with just 7:36 left to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Marian would record the only shot in the remainder of the game setting the final.

  • The Falcons finished with a 15-13 edge in shots but Marian had more shots on goal at a 7-6 clip.
  • Marian had just one corner kick to seven chances for CUW.
  • The draw is the first result for Marian since 2014, a 3-1 victory at home.
  • It is also the first known draw between Marian and CUW in the all-time series.

Junior Abby Larson scored her fifth goal of the season tying her for the team lead.
Sophomore Chelsea King (6-3-3) had five saves in the tie with three of her stops coming in the final 45 minutes.
Freshman Emily Gordillo recorded her third assist of the season tying her for the team lead.
