Marian women’s soccer rallies past Lakeland

 Marian University women’s soccer (7-8-3, 4-4-3 NACC) scored twice in the second half to beat Lakeland 3-1.

  • Freshman Jasmin Molina nearly opened the scoring but hit the crossbar at the 18:22 mark.
  • Luckily for the Sabres, senior Jacqueline Campos was in perfect position to bury the rebound and put Marian ahead 1-0.
  • Lakeland had an answer in the 29th minute to put the tally at 1-1 going into halftime.
  • A misplayed free kick at the 69:20 mark opened the door for Campos to give Marian the lead for good.
  • Sophomore Ysabella Sanchez was able to put the game away with 6:19 to play when she missed a penalty kick but buried the rebound.

  • Marian outshot Lakeland 11-3 in the first half and finished with a 20-11 advantage for shots in the game.
  • Shots on goal was slightly closer but Marian still had a 12-8 edge.
  • The Sabres had three corner kicks to only one for the Muskies.
  • It was a fairly clean game with only 10 fouls on Lakeland with a yellow and nine fouls on the Sabres.
  • Marian is 26-13-0 all-time against Lakeland and pushes its win streak to 16.
  • The Sabres can clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament with a win or draw against Edgewood in its final conference match of the season.

Junior Chelsea King (5-8-3) finished with seven saves including all six shots she saw in the second half.
Sophomore Ysabella Sanchez netted her second goal of the season.
