Marian women’s soccer knocks off Dominican in thriller

Marian University women’s soccer (7-3-3, 6-2-0 NACC) scored a goal in the first two minutes and one in the final two minutes to defeat Dominican 2-1.

  • Marian got out to a quick start with a blustering wind in their face to start.
  • The Sabres were able to create three quality chances in the first two minutes with junior Isabella Goodson scoring just 1:19 to open the scoring, her fourth of the season.  Junior Abby Larson assisted the first goal.
  • The Sabres continued to hold a majority of the possession and went into half with its 1-0 lead.
  • A back-and-forth second half opened and Dominican was able to tie the game in the 74th minute.
  • Marian was able to rally in the final minutes and a foul with two minutes left helped setup the game-winner.
  • From 25 yards out, senior Allison Schnell tucked the free kick perfectly into the upper left of the goal to give Marian the 2-1 victory.

  • Dominican held a slim 16-15 advantage in shots with a 9-8 edge in shots on goal as well.
  • Corner kicks were also close with the Stars edging Marian 6-4.
  • The Sabres improve to 7-0-0 when scoring the first goal of the game.
  • Marian has defeated Dominican in back-to-back seasons for the first time since defeating the Stars form 2011-2013.

Senior Allison Schnell scored her first goal of the season, which also served as the game-winner.
Sophomore Chelsea King (6-3-2) made eight saves in goal to earn the win.
Junior Abby Larson had a team-high three shots on goal and an assist.
