Marian Women’s Soccer Finds Offensive Stride Against SNC

Marian University women’s soccer (4-5-1, 1-1-1 NACC) earned its first NACC win of the season defeating St. Norbert 3-1.

  • The Green Knights controlled the pace of play early but Marian was able to hold SNC off the scoreboard.
  • Miscommunication from the SNC defense allowed senior Isabella Goodson to score an easy goal at the 22:31 mark with an assist from senior Jacqueline Campos.
  • Then in the 32nd minute, sophomore Emily Gordillo was able to bend in a corner kick for her fifth goal of the season.
  • This put Marian ahead 2-0 going into halftime.
  • The second half opened as a defensive battle with few shots.
  • St. Norbert was able to close to within one goal in the 73rd minute.
  • A goal kick from junior Chelsea King in the 82nd minute slid past everyone and allowed senior Baylee Alvarado a breakaway that she buried for her third goal of the campaign.
  • This goal proved to be the dagger and led to the 3-1 Sabre victory.

  • The Green Knights also had a 4-2 edge for corner kicks.
  • Each squad was called for nine fouls.
  • Marian improves to 3-5-0 all-time against SNC and has won the past two meetings by multiple goals.

Junior Chelsea King (2-4-1) finished with 11 saves, including all five she faced in the first half, and had an assist.
Sophomore Emily Gordillo had a match-high five shots and netted the game-winning goal.
Senior Baylee Alvarado had three shots and scored a goal.
