Marian women’s soccer continues defensive dominance with shutout at WLC

Marian University women’s soccer (2-1-2, 1-0-0 NACC) shutout Wisconsin Lutheran 1-0 to open NACC play.

  • The Sabres were able to dominate the opening 45 minutes outshooting Wisconsin Lutheran 15-3.
  • Marian was able to break the scoreless tie at the 41:24 mark with a goal from freshman Emily Gordillo, her third of the season.
  • The second half saw Wisconsin Lutheran show a little bit of fight but the Sabres were able to once again control pace.
  • WLC had a pair of chances in the final 2:22 but were denied by sophomore Chelsea King to preserve the shutout.

  • Marian finished with a 30-10 advantage in shots with a 17-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Sabres surrendered just one corner kick opportunity to WLC, while producing six chances.
  • Marian extends its winning streak to 18 straight games against WLC with 13 victories being shutouts.  
  • The Sabre defense has now posted two shutouts and have allowed just one goal in the last three games.

Sophomore Chelsea King (2-1-2) stopped six shots for the fourth shutout of her career.
Freshman Emily Gordillo scored her third goal of the season, and the first game-winner of her career.
Junior Abby Larson led both sides with eight shots.
