Marian women’s soccer clinches postseason bid

Marian University women’s soccer (8-6-4, 5-4-2 NACC) earned its spot in the NACC Tournament for the third straight season with a 2-0 win over Concordia Chicago.

  • Marian came out strong and dominated the opening minutes of action.
  • This eventually culminated in senior Brianna Guelig scoring her ninth goal of the season in the 16th minute with an assist from junior Emily Gordillo.
  • The Sabres added to their lead when freshman Allegra Hong dribbled around a defender at the 36:01 mark to put Marian ahead 2-0.
  • Gordillo nearly padded the Marian lead 4:10 into the second half but her attempt would hit the crossbar.
  • The score settled at that 2-0 score after the remainder of the second half didn’t have many quality chances.

  • Each team had two corner kicks, and CUC had nine fouls to only eight for Marian.
  • The victory along with an SNC loss clinched Marian a NACC Tournament spot for the third straight season.

  • Marian is now 13-4-3 all-time against Concordia Chicago with a 3-0-2 record over the last five meetings.
