Marian Women’s Lacrosse Wins Second Straight Defeating UW-Stout

Marian University women’s lacrosse (4-7, 1-0 NACC) used a big fourth-quarter rally to defeat UW-Stout 11-10.

  • After junior Emma Heide scored the first goal of the game in the first minute, UW-Stout responded with two straight to lead 2-1.
  • The Sabres responded with two goals of their own including a goal from junior Izzy Newton with just one second left in the quarter to lead 3-2.
  • The two squads traded goals to open the second quarter before the Blue Devils netted four unanswered goals to lead 7-4 at halftime.
  • The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the second half to lead 8-4 before the Marian rally began.
  • The Sabres would score the next three goals with three different goal scorers to only trail 8-7.
  • UW-Stout found the back of the net in the final minute to take a 9-7 lead into the final quarter.
  • Marian continued its momentum to open the fourth quarter scoring the first three goals of the quarter to retake the lead at 10-9 with 9:12 to play.
  • The Sabre lead would only last 18 seconds before the Blue Devils tied the game with 8:54 on the clock.
  • Senior Taylor Russo would net the game-winner with 4:11 to play as Marian earned its second straight win.

  • Marian finished with a 35-21 edge in shots including a 13-4 advantage in the fourth quarter.
  • The Sabre defense had a strong game holding UW-Stout to 18-of-37 (.486) on clear attempts.
  • Each team had 12 draw controls and the Blue Devils held a slim 38-36 edge in ground balls.
  • The win was the first time this season the Sabres were able to rally from a deficit after three quarters of play.
  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Junior Izzy Newton led the way for Marian scoring four goals with an assist for five points.
Senior Kayla Kolpitcke finished with six caused turnovers, four draw controls, and nine ground balls.
Senior Gwen Kosirog (4-6) made eight saves and grabbed four ground balls.
