Marian women’s lacrosse takes care of Elmhurst for first win

Marian University women’s lacrosse (1-5, 0-0 NACC) earned its first victory of the season defeating Elmhurst 18-8.

  • Marian was on the board first but Elmhurst quickly took the lead with back-to-back goals.
  • The Sabres then responded with two consecutive goals only for Elmhurst to tie the game at 3-3.
  • The first 10:34 of the second period saw Marian score three of the first four goals to build a 6-4 lead.
  • The Blue Jays had a strong finish to the quarter, however, scoring three goals in the final 3:09 to lead 7-6 at halftime.
  • The second half was all Marian as the Sabres outscored Elmhurst 7-0 in the third quarter to lead 13-7.
  • The Sabres opened the fourth quarter with the first three goals to cap 10 unanswered goals to begin the second half.
  • Back-to-back unassisted goals from senior Nicole Stachon would invoke mercy-timing and set the final at 18-8.

  • Marian held a 34-27 advantage in shots and outshot the Blue Jays 22-10 in the second half.
  • The Sabre defense forced 33 turnovers and held a 21-16 advantage in ground balls.
  • Marian scored a season-high six of its goals on free-position attempts.
  • The 18 goals scored is tied for the third-most goals in a single game in program history.
  • Marian is now 2-1 all-time against Elmhurst with this being the first road win for the Sabres.

Senior Nicole Stachon had a career-night scoring eight goals with four assists for 12 points.  She also had five ground balls and five draw controls.
Junior Emma Heide led the defense with four caused turnovers and had three points offensively.
Senior Gwen Kosirog stopped nine shots and posted a .529 save percentage.

Women playing college lacrosse
