Marian women’s lacrosse sets single-game record for goals at Augsburg

Marian University women’s lacrosse (2-2, 0-0 NACC) set a single-game record for goals scored in a 21-5 victory at Augsburg.

  • After trading the first two goals, Marian scored the next five goals to lead 6-1.
  • The Sabres continued to dominate in the opening quarter and finished the first 15 minutes with an 11-3 lead.
  • Seven different Sabres scored in the stanza led by senior Izzy Newton who had three goals.
  • Marian built its lead out to 13-3 before Augsburg netted the final two goals of the second quarter to trail 13-5 at halftime.
  • The Sabre defense didn’t allow a single goal the rest of the way while the offense had four goals in each quarter to put the final at 21-5.
  • Senior Nicole Stachon led the way in the second half with three goals.

  • Marian held a 39-21 advantage for shots and limited the Auggies to three shots in the second half.
  • The Sabres also had a 21-17 edge for ground balls and 16-13 advantage for draw controls.
  • Marian was 16-of-20 (.800) on clears and forced 11 turnovers on the 24 Augsburg clear attempts.
  • The 21 goals is the most scored for Sabre women’s lacrosse in a single game.
  • This is the first victory for Marian over Augsburg in three games.

Senior Nicole Stachon led the offense with five goals and three assists for eight points.  She also had three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Freshman Chloe Yanez had two goals and an assist to go wtih four ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Freshman Emma Johnson (2-2) stopped six of the 11 shots she saw.
