Marian women’s lacrosse keeps postseason hopes alive with win at MSOE

Marian University women’s lacrosse (5-9, 2-2 NACC) defeated MSOE 9-5 in the first meeting between the two programs.

  • The Raiders were able to jump ahead quickly on the Sabres taking a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.
  • Marian bounced back nicely in the second quarter scoring three goals in a span of 2:36 to tie the game at 3-3 heading into halftime.
  • Marian opened the scoring for the second half with two goals to cap off a run of five straight goals and lead 5-3.
  • The two squads would trade goals the remainder of the stanza and Marian found itself ahead 7-5 going into the fourth.
  • A woman-down and woman-up goal from the Sabres was all the scoring four the fourth quarter as Marian earned a 9-5 road victory.

  • Marian was only outshot in one quarter and finished with a slim 22-20 advantage.
  • The Sabres also held a slim advantage in ground balls at 33-29.
  • Marian would score three of its goals with a woman-up advantage and two of its goals a woman-down.
  • MSOE won 13 of the 17 draw controls.

Junior Izzy Newton led the way scoring three goals with an assist for four points.
Junior Emma Heide had two goals with two assists to go with five ground balls.
Senior Gwen Kosirog (5-7) stopped nine shots and finished with a .643 save percentage.
