Marian women’s lacrosse hangs on to defeat UWSP

Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-3, 0-0 NACC) never trailed in a 12-11 win over UW-Stevens Point.

  • UWSP opened with a 2-1 lead but Marian then scored seven unanswered goals to take an 8-2 advantage with 8:36 left in the second quarter.
  • Marian had a 5-2 lead after the first quarter of action.
  • The Pointers netted the final two goals of the opening half as Marian took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
  • The Pointers had a strong start to the second half and tied the game in the first 5:31 of action.
  • The two squads traded goals to put the score at 9-9 before goals from seniors Emma Heide and Jazmine Barrios put the Sabres ahead 11-9 going into the final stanza.
  • Freshman Chloe Yanez netted the opening goal of the fourth quarter to put Marian ahead 12-9.
  • UWSP was able to score a pair of goals but Marian held UWSP scoreless over the final 6:49 to earn the road victory.
