Marian women’s lacrosse defeats Cornell in NACC opener

Marian University women’s lacrosse (2-6, 1-0 NACC) opened NACC play with a 7-5 win over Cornell.

  • The Rams were able to get on the scoreboard just 2:26 into the game but Marian dominated possession most of the first half.
  • The Sabres were able to even the score with a goal from freshman Talia Bellotti with 5:34 left in the quarter.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Van Ryzin then gave Marian the lead just 32 seconds later.
  • The Rams once again started the second quarter with the first goal only for Marian to score two unanswered again.
  • Freshman Shaelyn Klassen netted the first goal of her career to start the run before Van Ryzin helped Marian extend its lead.
  • The 4-2 advantage held going into halftime.
  • Marian continued to add to its lead scoring the only two goals of the third quarter.
  • Klassen scored her second of the game before sophomore Chloe Yanez found the back of the net with 33 seconds left to put Marian ahead 6-2 headed into the fourth quarter.
  • The two sides traded goals to open the quarter with Yanez scoring for Marian to put the tally at 7-3.
  • The Rams made things interesting with a pair of late goals separated by just 1:20 but Marian was able to hold off this late push.
