Marian women’s hockey shuts out Trine in series opener

Marian University women’s hockey (3-6-1, 3-4-0-0 NCHA) posted its first shutout of the season defeating Trine 3-0.

  • Both offenses created plenty of opportunities but both goaltenders kept the scoreboard clear of any goals through 20 minutes.
  • Senior Lilly Accola was able to score her first collegiate goal 3:58 into the second period with an assist from fellow senior Hannah Cunha.
  • The Sabres would build a multi-goal lead when junior Jadyn Gorski scored her third goal of the season with 3:21 left in the period.  Sophomore Logan Crawford and senior Alyssa Heim each earned an assist.
  • The third period was then dominated by both goaltenders as well but senior Aeryn Olson would score a goal in the second straight game with an empty-net goal to seal the 3-0 win.

  • The shutout is the first this season for the Sabres.
  • Marian outshot Trine in the second period but the Thunder held a 37-24 advantage for the game.
  • The Sabres held a slim advantage in draws by a 27-24 margin.
  • Neither team had a power-play goal with Trine having four chances and Marian just one.
  • The victory marks the first win for Marian over Trine since 2017.

Senior Kayla Kolpicke (1-2-1) stopped all 37 shots she faced to earn her first win of the season.
Senior Lilly Accola scored her first collegiate goal and it proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore Logan Crawford recorded her sixth point in a five game span with an assist.
