Marian women’s hockey scores late to split with MSOE

Marian University women’s ice hockey (1-1-0, 0-0-0-0 NCHA) scored a short-handed goal in the final minutes to defeat MSOE 1-0.

  • The opening period was a defensive struggle for both sides as the two teams only combined for 12 shots.
  • MSOE came inches away from opening the scoring in the second period but had a shot ring off the post.
  • The Sabres then had a shot of their own hit off the post in the opening minutes of the third period.
  • A Sabre tripping penalty with 3:05 left in the game then set up for the unlikely finish.
  • Senior Jadyn Gorski would manage to light the lamp with just 2:56 to play on the penalty kill with assists from sophomore Ella Spies and freshman Madelyn Gorski.
  • After making a flurry of stops at the end of the penalty kill, Marian would hold off 27 seconds of extra-attacker time to earn the win.

  • The Sabres finished with a slim 29-28 advantage in shots and had double-digit shots in two periods.
  • The Raiders had a hefty advantage in faceoffs at 34-20.
  • The Marian penalty kill had a solid bounce-back night holding MSOE scoreless on seven chances.
