Marian women’s hockey eliminated from NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs after tie

Marian University women’s hockey (8-16-2, 5-10-1-0 NCHA) saw its season come to an end after a 1-1 tie against Aurora in the NCHA Slaats Cup Quarterfinals.

  • Aurora got out to a fast start scoring just 2:35 into the game.
  • Marian was able to net its first goal of the weekend just 4:03 later when sophomore Logan Crawford lit the lamp with an assist from senior Alyssa Heim.
  • This would be all the scoring for regulation as the two squads headed to overtime.
  • Needing a victory, Marian was able to outshoot the Spartans in the five-minute session but couldn’t find the back of the net leading to the tie.

  • Marian was outshot 48-19 for the game with the Sabres outshooting the Spartans 4-1 in overtime.
  • Both penalty-kill units were perfect with Marian having five chances and Aurora three.
  • Marian had a slim advantage in face offs by a 36-33 margin.
  • This is the first non-defeat for the Sabre women’s ice hockey program in the postseason.

Senior Logan Crawford scored her fifth goal of the season.
Senior Alyssa Heim had her ninth helper of the season and won 10 face offs.
