Marian women’s hockey dominates Dubuque to open series

Marian University women’s ice hockey  (4-3-0, 2-3-0 NCHA) won its second straight game defeating Dubuque 4-1 on the road.

  • After a slow start for both sides, junior Catherine Yasenak opened the scoring with 6:18 left in the first period with an assist from sophomore Piper Miller.
  • A short-handed goal from junior Olivia Church put Marian ahead 2-0 with 2:41 left in the first period.
  • That lead held going into the second period before Church netted her second goal of the game, another assist to Miller, at the 8:43 mark.
  • The Spartans cut down on their deficit at the 8:40 mark of the third period before junior Olivia Laube scored with 5:05 to play to put the final at 4-1.
  • Sophomore Jessica Tadevich and freshman Anabelle Leclair each assisted the final goal of the game.

  • Marian finished with a 33-30 advantage in shots with 27 of their shots coming over the final two periods.
  • Neither team had a power-play goal with Marian having three chances and the Spartans five.
  • The Spartans finished with 30 face-off wins to 24 for the Sabres.
  • This is the latest in the season Marian has had a winning record in program history.
  • Marian is now 5-0-0 all-time against the Spartans.

Sophomore Jillian Traver (3-1-0) made 29 saves and had a .967 save percentage for the game.
Sophomore Piper Miller had the first multi-assist and multi-point game of her career.
