Marian women’s hockey completes sweep with shutout

Marian University women’s ice hockey (3-5-0, 2-4-0-0 NCHA) completed a sweep of Dubuque with a 2-0 victory.

  • The opening period was fairly balanced between the two squads but it was Marian who was able to strike for a goal.
  • Senior Michaela Powers was the Sabre to lit the lamp while MU was on a power play and she was assisted by junior Jennarae Bateman and freshman Sophie Hunter.
  • The 1-0 tally lasted just 1:16 into the second period when senior Sydney Schipper found the back of the net with assists from freshmen Zowie Hunter and Piper Miller.
  • Marian took control for the remainder of the game but were unable to score putting the final at 2-0.

  • Marian finished with a 28-19 advantage for shots recording 11 shots in each of the final two periods.
  • Dubuque held a 35-28 advantage for face-offs.
  • The Sabre penalty-kill unit held Dubuque scoreless on seven chances, while the power play finished 1-for-5 (.200).
  • Marian is 4-0-0 all-time against Dubuque.

Freshman Sydney Magnuson (3-5-0) stopped all 19 shots she faced for her second shutout of the season.
Senior Michaela Powers scored her first goal of the season and it served as the game-winner.
Senior Sydney Schipper netted her second goal of the year and went 12-10 in the face-off circle.
