Marian women’s bowling rallies to clinch spot in NCAA Tournament

Marian University women’s bowling won its third CCIW Tournament Championship to earn its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.

  • After winning the regular season title Marian was the top seed for the tournament.
  • Marian left no doubt in its opening round match-up against Carroll earning a 947-911 win in traditional play and 965-802 in Baker for a sweep.
  • The Sabres jumped ahead of No. 3 Aurora in its second round match-up with a 960-844 win in traditional play.
  • Marian rolled well in Baker but Aurora would force a third match with a 1,027-873 win.
  • The Spartans completed the comeback with a 4-2 win in the winner-take-all third match.
  • Needing a victory, the Sabres took care of business against Carthage to earn a spot in the CCIW Championship.
  • Marian would have its best rounds of the tournament defeating the Firebirds 1,016-921 in traditional play and 1,007-935 in Baker play.
  • In its rematch with Aurora, Marian was able to earn its third sweep of the tournament with a 1,002-799 and 970-875 win.
  • This forced a winner-take-all seventh match, a Baker style best of seven match-up.
  • Marian continued to roll well and jumped out to a quick lead on the Spartans and never looked back defeating Aurora 4-2.
  • Along with winning its third CCIW Tournament Championship, the Sabres earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the conference, the first trip to the National Tournament in program history.
  • Marian will learn its regional location and opponents during the NCAA selection show Wednesday, March 27 at 3 p.m. at NCAA.com.
