Marian women’s basketball dominates Dominican to snap skid

Marian University women’s basketball (4-13, 2-6 NACC) allowed a season-low 33 points in a 76-33 victory that secured a season sweep of Dominican.

  • After Marian opened with an 8-6 lead the Sabres went on a 13-3 run to build a 12-point cushion.
  • Freshman Taj Hanserd closed out the quarter with a triple to put Marian ahead 24-11 heading into the second stanza.
  • The Sabre defense allowed just two field goals in the second quarter and outscored Dominican 23-6 in the second stanza.
  • This gave Marian a hefty 47-17 lead going into halftime.
  • Marian only added to its lead after outscoring the Stars 17-11 in the third quarter.
  • A defensive final stanza saw Marian outscore DU 12-5 to put the final at 76-33.
  • Marian shot 28-of-68 (.412) from the field and 7-of-27 (.259) from beyond the arc.
  • The Sabre defense limited Dominican to 11-of-64 (.172) shooting and 3-of-26 (.115) from beyond the arc.
  • Marian also forced 17 turnovers and outscored the Stars 19-6 in points off turnovers.
  • The Sabres finished with a hefty 42-14 advantage for points in the paint.
  • Marian is now 21-15 all-time against Dominican and have won the last five meetings, including both this season.

Junior Chelsea King scored a game-high 15 poitns with seven rebounds, three assists, and just as many steals.

 

 

 

 

Sophomore Kaylee Nowak nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

 

 

 

 

Freshman Taj Hanserd had a career-high 10 points and three assists off the bench.
