Marian softball returns to action with split

Marian University softball (2-6, 0-0 NACC) defeated Bluffton 8-0 in five innings before falling to RPI 3-0.

GAME 1 (W, 8-0 [5], HOME)

  • Marian wasted no time scoring runs plating three runs in its first inning back after an off day.
  • Junior Ariana Schliepp drove in the first pair of runs followed by a run-producing single from sophomore Sabrina Di Vito.
  • The 3-0 lead held into the fourth when Marian took advantage of a pitching change to score five runs.
  • Schliepp and Di Vito each had a pair of runs batted in with senior Kendall Pliner bringing home a run between the duo.
  • This crooked number was enough for Marian to earn the mercy-rule win.
  • Marian has beaten Bluffton each of the past two seasons.

GAME 2 (L, 3-0, AWAY)

  • Game two of the day saw Marian limited to just four hits.
  • RPI was able to score a run in the second and two in the fourth to earn the win.
  • Marian is now 0-2 all-time against RPI.

Junior Ariana Schliepp went 2-for-3 with four runs driven in and a run scored against Bluffton.
Sophomore Sabrina Di Vito (2-2) tossed her second shutout of the season allowing just three hits against the Beavers.
Senior Kendall Pliner was the lone Sabre with a hit in each game going 2-for-3 with a run driven in against Bluffton.
