Marian University softball (17-17, 14-8 NACC) split Friday’s doubleheader at St. Norbert, falling 8-5 in game one before winning 9-4 in game two.

GAME 1 

  • The Green Knights scored twice in the first inning on a two-run double.
  • St. Norbert’s lead grew to 5-0 after three innings, as Marian managed just one hit through the first three. 
  • Marian sparked some offense with two hits and a run in the fourth. 
  • Sophomore Macey Pease delivered a two-run single in the fifth to trim the deficit to three. 
  • Pease and senior Ariana Schliepp each recorded RBI’s in the seventh, but the Green Knights held on for an 8-5 win. 

GAME 2 

  • Three first-inning runs put the Sabres ahead, including one on a dropped fly ball, before junior Savanna Knuth capped the frame with an RBI double.
  • Schliepp kept the Sabres ahead with an RBI single in the second, scoring junior Erin Cowe.
  • Marian broke it open with a five-run sixth. Pease delivered a two-run single, Schliepp added an RBI double, and senior Riley Mankowski scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 9-2.
  • St. Norbert scored twice in the seventh, but a game-ending strikeout by Knuth sealed the win for the Sabres.

  • The Sabres were outhit 12-10.
  • Each team committed an error, leading to two unearned runs for the Sabres in the fifth and one for the Green Knights in the sixth.
  • Marian used four pitchers, with junior Sabrina Di Vito logging the most innings.
  • Ava Engwell led St. Norbert, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. 

GAME 2

  • The teams were even with 11 hits apiece.
  • Three Green Knights errors led to six unearned runs for Marian. 
  • Four Sabres recorded two hits each. 
  • Sophomore Aubrey Bender scored her 20th run of the season to move into the team lead in runs. 
  • The Sabres trail the all-time series 25-11 against the Green Knights but have won five of the last six meetings.

Senior Hope Matta went 4-for-8 with four runs scored and three stolen bases.
Senior Ariana Schliepp finished 4-for-8 and drove in three runs. 
Sophomore Macey Pease recorded five RBIs on the day.
