Marian softball eliminated from NACC Tournament

Marian University softball (20-19, 15-9 NACC) was eliminated by Lakeland from the NACC Tournament for a second straight season falling 4-1.

  • Marian nearly opened the scoring in the second but a grounds-rule double prevented the Sabres from scoring after a single opened the inning.
  • The Sabres were able to put together a two-out rally in the third to plate the first run of the game when senior Kendall Pliner drove in sophomore Erin Cowe.
  • The lead didn’t last long as Lakeland plated three runs in the next half inning.
  • Marian tried to respond in the bottom of the fourth but stranded a pair of runners on base.
  • The Muskies added a run in the top of the sixth while holding Marian to just one base runner over the final three innings to advance in the NACC Tournament.
  • Marian is now 43-48 all-time against Lakeland and 14-23 at the NACC Tournament.
  • Marian finishes the season with a winning record for the second straight season.

Sophomore Savanna Knuth was 2-for-3.
Sophomore Erin Cowe scored the only Marian run.
