Marian softball earns first sweep of 2026

Marian University softball (3-5, 0-0 NACC) earned a pair of victories defeating Adrian 8-6 and Wentworth 7-0.

GAME 1 (ADRIAN, W, 8-6)

  • A slow start for Marian saw Adrian score two runs in the first and another in the third to lead 3-0.
  • A four-run third inning helped turn the tide and give Marian the lead.
  • Sophomore Aubrey Bender and junior Savanna Knuth each had an extra-base hit in the inning that drove in a run.
  • The Sabres went right back to work in the fourth plating another four runs to build its lead to 8-3.
  • Knuth had another run-producing hit in the inning.
  • The Bulldogs rallied scoring a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Marian was able to hold off Adrian.

GAME 2 (WENTWORTH, W, 7-0)

  • The Sabres quickly went to work in game two plating two runs in the first and another in the second, which proved to be more than enough.
  • Marian added to its lead after plating another three runs.
  • Junior Erin Cowe had the big hit of the frame starting the rally with a run-producing double.
  • With a 6-0 lead, Cowe drove in another run with a single in the fifth to put the final at 7-0.

  • Both offenses had big days with Marian holding a slim 13-12 advantage in hits.
  • The Sabres took advantage of three Bulldog errors scoring four unearned runs.
  • Four different Marian hitters had multiple hits in the victory.
  • Marian is now 1-1 all-time against Adrian after falling to the Bulldogs last season.

GAME 2

  • Marian had a 13-5 edge in hits.
  • The Sabres committed zero errors on defense for the first time this season.
  • Only one Sabre starter didn’t record a hit.
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams.

Junior Savanna Knuth (1-3) tossed the first shutout of her career against Wentworth and went 3-for-3 with three runs driven in against Adrian.
Sophomore Aubrey Bender had multiple hits in both victories.
Junior Erin Cowe was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in and two runs scored against Wentworth.
