Marian NCAA men’s hockey snaps skid with road win at Lawrence

Marian University men’s ice hockey (7-12-0, 4-8-0 NCHA) defeated Lawrence 4-3 to salvage a split against Lawrence.

  • Marian had the lone tally in the opening period when senior Daunte Fortner netted a power-play goal with 6:22 remaining, assists to sophomore Caden Carlson and junior Noah Pickart.
  • Fortner had a strong start to the second period completing a hat trick with goals at the 4:11 and 7:52 marks.
  • Freshman Edison Weeks and Carlson, Ca. each assisted both scores.
  • The Vikings were able to cut the Marian lead down to 3-1 heading into the final period with a power-play goal of their own.
  • Weeks put the Sabres ahead 4-1 just 2:53 in the final period with assists from Fortner and Carlson, Ca.
  • The Vikings fought back scoring a power-play goal with 4:42 left and a 6-on-4 goal with 2:27 remaining.
  • Marian was able to hold off the Vikings the rest of the way to secure the split.
  • Following the win, a shootout was conducted to determine the home of the Battle of Highway 41 trophy where Lawrence defeated Marian 2-0.
  • Marian held a 35-30 edge for shots in the game.
  • Lawrence finished 3-for-5 (.600) on the power play, while Marian was 1-for-3 (.333).
  • The Sabres had a 32-26 advantage in draws.
  • Marian earns its first regulation win over Lawrence since March 10, 2021 and is now 61-16-10 all-time against Lawrence.

Senior Daunte Fortner had the first hat trick of his career and added an assist.

 

 

 

Sophomore Caden Carlson assisted all four Marian goals.

 

 

 

 

Freshman Edison Weeks scored a goal and had two assists.
