Marian NCAA men’s hockey rallies for two points at Dubuque

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (3-2-0, 0-1-1-1 NCHA) erased a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 overtime win at Dubuque.

  • The game opened with an evenly-matched opening period with neither team scoring.
  • Dubuque broke the ice at the 8:20 mark of the second period and needed just 14 more seconds to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Marian rally began with 1:37 left in the second period when senior Daunte Fortner scored his first gaol of the season with assists to freshman Brendan Bottem and fellow senior Matteo Pecchia.
  • Bottem and Fortner then teamed up at the 9:27 mark of the third period to tie the game.
  • The goal was the first collegiate score for Bottem and eventually forced overtime.
  • Sophomoore Cole Carlson netted the game-winner to give Marian the extra point with 32 seconds remaining in overtime, assists to sophomore Caden Carlson and junior Noah Pickart.

  • Marian was outshot for the game by a final tally of 30-24.
  • The Spartans also had a slim advantage for face-offs at 33-28.
  • Each team had three power-play opportunities but neither side was able to light the lamp.
  • Marian improves to 4-0-0 all-time against Dubuque.

Freshman Tyler Fromolz (1-1-0) earned the first win of his career making 28 saves with half of his saves coming in the third period and overtime.
Sophomore Cole Carlson netted the game-winner in overtime.
