Marian NCAA men’s hockey has season end at No. 7 Trine

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (9-17-1, 6-11-1 NCHA) had its season come to an end falling at No. 7 Trine 4-1 in the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals.

  • The Thunder were able to get out to a good start once again scoring just 5:26 into the game.
  • The 1-0 lead held into the second period when Trine struck for a power-play goal 2:53 in.
  • Marian was able to finally strike when junior Caden Carlson netted a power-play score of his own at the 5:03 mark.
  • Senior Matteo Pecchia and freshman Robert Pizzey each assisted the goal.
  • Another power-play score saw Trine take a 3-1 lead going into the final period.
  • The Thunder closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal in the final five seconds.

  • Trine held a 30-21 advantage for shots in the game with Marian outshooting the Thunder in the third period.
  • Face-offs were in favor of Trine at a 38-28 clip.
  • Marian was 1-for-3 on the power play and Trine scored on both of their chances.
  • The Sabres have lost their last eight games in the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs.
  • Marian falls to 4-12-0 all-time against Trine with the Thunder taking nine of the last 10 meetings.

Sophomore Caden Carlson scored the lone Marian goal and had a team-high eight face-off wins.
Senior Matteo Pecchia had an assist and four shots on goal.
