Marian NCAA men’s hockey dominates late to defeat Dubuque

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey  (1-6-1, 1-5-0 NCHA) scored four goals in the final period to defeat Dubuque 5-3.

  • Neither offense played well to start but the Spartans were able to take a 1-0 lead with 2:03 left in the first period.
  • The Spartan advantage held all the way until 2:47 remained in the second period when junior Caden Carlson evened the score with an assist from sophomore Brendan Bottem.
  • The Sabres then took their first lead of the game 3:27 into the third when junior Cole Carlson scored a power-play goal with help from Bottem.
  • Bottem added to the Marian lead just 2:55 later with assists from senior Noah Pickart and junior Nolan Flint.
  • A fourth unanswered goal for Marian put the Sabres ahead 4-1 with 9:24 to play.
  • Senior Alex Enegren was the Sabre to light the lamp with help from fellow senior Quinn Mulder.
  • Dubuque responded scoring a pair of extra-attacker goals while there was a Sabre in the penalty box.
  • Flint was able to ice the game with 8.5 seconds remaining, assist to Carlson, Co., with an empty-net score.

  • Marian finished with a 31-24 advantage in shots and held a 14-6 advantage in the second period.
  • Dubuque outshot Marian 14-10 in the final period but 10 of the Spartan shots came on the power play.
  • The Sabres held a hefty 36-27 advantage on face-offs.
  • Marian was 1-for-5 on the power play and Dubuque had two scores on six chances.
  • Three different Sabres had multiple points in the win.
