Marian NCAA men’s hockey defeats (RV) Bethel in overtime

Marian University NCAA men’s ice hockey (1-0-0, 0-0-0-0 NCHA) earned a win over Bethel in its season opener by a 2-1 final in overtime.

  • It was a defensive battle for the majority of the game and went scoreless through the first 40 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore Caden Carlson opened the scoring just 1:33 into the third period with assists from senior Matteo Pecchia and fellow sophomore Cole Carlson.
  • The Royals were able to even the scoring with just 16 seconds remaining lighting the lamp on an extra-attacker power-play goal.  
  • This forced overtime but it took Marian just 39 seconds into the extra period when Carlson, Cad. netted his second of the game with assists from Carlson, Col. and fellow sophomore Noah Pickart.

  • Marian was outshot in the game by a 29-18 tally.
  • The Sabres were scoreless on two power-play chances, while Bethel went 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • The Royals also finished with a slim 32-28 advantage for faceoffs.
  • Marian improves to 5-5-1 all-time against Bethel and is 5-1-0 over the last six meetings.
