Marian NCAA men’s hockey bounces back with win at MSOE

Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (8-11-0, 3-7-1-1 NCHA) posted its second shutout of the season defeating MSOE 4-0.

  • The Sabres were once again able to strike first when senior Austin Nault lit the lamp for the fourth time this season 8:40 into the game.
  • Then with just 2:17 left in the opener, freshman Cole Carlson netted his sixth goal of the season with an assist from junior Daunte Fortner.
  • A quiet second period saw no scoring, but Nault would net his second goal of the game 1:35 into the final stanza.  Freshman Sheldon Kwiatkowski would assist the score.
  • An empty-net goal from sophomore Luca Marcellitti with 3:59 to play would settle the final at 4-0.

  • MSOE finished with a 31-22 advantage in shots for the game.
  • Both penalty kill units had a strong game once again with Marian being held scoreless on two chances and MSOE on five opportunities.
  • The Raiders finished with a 37-21 advantage in face offs.
  • Marian improves to 54-35-2 all-time against MSOE and earns its first regular season road win over MSOE since 2020.

Senior Aaron Brunn (8-9-0) posted his second shutout of the season stopping all 31 shots he faced.
Senior Austin Nault scored multiple goals for the second time this season.
Freshman Cole Carlson scored a goal and now has five points in his last four games.
