Marian men’s volleyball stays close to WLC

Marian University men’s volleyball (4-10, 0-3 NACC) fell in three close sets to Wisconsin Lutheran 25-22, 25-21, and 25-22.

  • The largest lead in the opening set was only three points as the two sides went back-and-forth all the way to 21-21.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran then finished with four of the final five points to take the first set.
  • The Warriors scored the first five points of the second set but Marian was able to bounce back and led 13-12.
  • The lead didn’t last long as WLC immediately used a quick 5-1 run to lead by three.
  • This proved to be the difference as the two teams went point-for-point the remainder of the set.
  • After a 5-4 Warrior lead opened the third, Marian went on a 6-2 spurt to lead 10-7.
  • Marian held this lead for most of the set until WLC tied the set at 18-18.
  • The two squads were tied at 20-20 before the Warriors scored four straight to help secure the sweep.

  • Each team had 36 digs, while Wisconsin Lutheran had an advantage in kills at 42-27.
  • Marian had five blocks at the net to only one for Wisconsin Lutheran.
  • Marian finished strong with 13 kills in the third set while hitting .393.
  • The strong serving game for the Warriors showed as WLC had six aces to only one for the Sabres.
  • Marian falls to 4-2 all-time against WLC with the Warriors taking the last two meetings.

Sophomore Adrian Calderon-Castro continued to lead the way for Marian recording 12 kills to go with nine digs.
Senior Trent Goo Sun posted a match-high 13 digs in the back row.
Sophomore Ghreysen Scully hit .455 while recording six kills to go with three total blocks.
