Marian men’s volleyball heads into road trip after defeating Edgewood

Marian University men’s volleyball (9-8, 3-3 NACC) earned a four-set victory over Edgewood with set scores of 25-27, 25-17, 25-22, and 25-20.

  • The opening set was a seesaw battle that started with a 15-15 stalemate.
  • Marian was able to score the next four points of the set and took its lead out to 24-22.
  • Edgewood was able to fight off three Sabre set points before taking the first set.
  • The Sabres dominated the start of the second set and led 7-1.
  • Marian was able to build its lead to as large as nine before evening the sets at 1-1.
  • The third set was nearly identical to the opener to start with the two squads scoring 15 points.
  • The stalemate went out to 21-21 before Marian scored four of the final points to go ahead 2-1.
  • Marian led for most of the fourth set and after leading 19-17 went on a quick 4-1 spurt to lead 23-18.
  • The two squads traded points the rest of the way leading to the four-set win for the Sabres.

  • The Sabres had a 54-41 advantage for kills and 44-37 edge for digs.
  • Marian had double-digit kills in the final three sets including a second set that saw the Sabres hit .536 with 18 kills.
  • Edgewood finished with slim advantages in aces, 4-3, and blocks, 10-8.
  • Marian improves to 5-0 all-time against Edgewood.

Senior Derek Wills had a match-high 18 kills and hit .429 in the match.
Freshman Adrian Calderon added 17 kills to go with 11 digs for his second straight double-double, third of the season.
Senior Aaron Velasco had a match-high 14 digs and five assists.
