Marian men’s volleyball falls to CUW in three sets

Marian University men’s volleyball (9-3, 1-1 NACC) fell to Concordia Wisconsin in three sets 25-20, 25-20, 28-26.

  • Set one saw the two teams trading points with CUW holding the early 6-4 advantage.
  • An additional 6-4 run by the Falcons pushed its lead to four before a 4-0 run by CUW extended its lead and forced a Sabre timeout. 
  • Marian was able to respond with a 5-1 run coming out of the timeout.
  • A slim 4-3 advantage for the Sabres brought the CUW lead down to two before a 3-0 run pushed the Falcon lead back up to five. 
  • The Falcons would close out set one with an even 2-2 advantage.
  • Set two saw the Sabres get out to a 6-4 lead before the Falcons answered with a 5-0 run. 
  • Marian would go on to score the next point but the Falcons used a strong 6-0 run to take its lead to 15-7. 
  • The Sabres would not go away quietly behind a 7-5 run but the two teams would end set two trading points on an even 5-5 run.
  • CUW was able to get out to a quick start to set three behind a 6-1 run.
  • The two teams would go on to trade points with an even 6-6 run to push its score to 12-7.
  • The Sabres were able to answer a Falcon 5-3 run with a 7-3 run of its own. 
  • Marian used a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the set and force a Falcon timeout after a short 2-1 run to take the score to 23-21.
  • The Sabres had two chances to close out set three and force a fourth set but CUW would tie things up 24-24.
  • The two teams would go on to trade the next few points with the Sabres having two additional set points 25-24 and 26-25.
  • CUW was able to take set three and the match behind a 3-0 run.

  • The Sabre defense forced 13 CUW hitting errors but surrendered 23 of its own. 
  • Marian recorded a hitting percentage of under .100 in set one and two but bounced back with an efficient set three hitting .293.
  • A back row battle by both teams saw the Falcons hold the slight advantage in digs 42-38.

Junior Trent Goo Sun recorded his second double-double in the last week with 31 assists and 11 digs.   
Senior Derek Wills recorded a team-high 13 kills while adding six digs. 
Junior Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes had a solid night in the middle with six kills and three blocks.
