Marian men’s volleyball falls to Aurora in NACC Quarterfinals

Marian University men’s volleyball (16-9, 7-5 NACC) falls to Aurora in the NACC Quarterfinals 31-29, 25-22, 25-11.

  • Set one saw both teams getting out to a strong start with Marian holding the slight 6-4 advantage. 
  • Aurora was able to take a 9-7 lead behind a 5-2 run which was followed up by a Spartan 4-3 advantage to push its lead to 13-10.
  • The Sabres answered with its own 5-2 run to regain the lead at 15-15.
  • Aurora used a 3-0 run to regain a three point lead but Marian would not go away using another 5-2 run to regain the lead 20-19.
  • The two teams would trade points again with neither team able to put the other away until Marian found itself up 29-28 but Aurora scored three unanswered to take set one. 
  • The Spartans were able to use the momentum from set one to get out to a fast 6-2 start to set two. 
  • Marian crawled back into the set on an 9-4 run to take its first lead of the set 11-10.
  • Marian pushed its lead to 17-15 before a 5-3 spartan run would tie things up 20-20. 
  • Aurora finished set two on a 5-2 run after two Sabre errors.
  • Set three was all Spartans after getting out to a 6-1 start and would push its lead to nine following a 6-2 advantage.
  • Marian showed some life on an even 4-4 run but were not able to gain much momentum. 
  • The Spartans pushed its lead to 10 and would cruise to a set three and quarterfinal victory.

  • Marian held the 38-37 advantage in kills but recorded 23 hitting errors and was only able to force 12 by the Spartans.
  • The Sabres also held the advantage in assists 36-35 while Aurora held the advantage in digs, aces, and blocks.
  • After missing the playoffs in 2023 the Sabres returned to the NACC Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.
  • Marian has finished with a winning record in each of its last four seasons.

Senior Cam Muller recorded 12 kills on .333 hitting with one block and one service ace.
Senior Derek Wills recorded his ninth double-double of the season after adding 10 kills and 11 digs.
Senior Nick Stasch added 32 assists and four digs.
