Marian men’s volleyball falls at Illinois Tech

Marian University men’s volleyball (15-6, 6-3 NACC) fell short to Illinois Tech in three sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.

  • The match opened up with competitive play by both teams with Marian holding the slim 7-6 advantage. 
  • The Scarlett Hawks used a 5-2 run to take a two point lead before the back-and-forth play continued. 
  • Neither team was able to pull away in set one with the score tied 14-14 but Marian held a 21-20 advantage before Illinois Tech rattled off a 5-2 run to take set one by two. 
  • Set two opened with a similar script as set one with the teams tied 3-3 before the Scarlett Hawks used a 4-0 to push the score to 7-3. 
  • Illinois Tech would go on a 5-3 run before Marian responded with a 7-3 run of its own. 
  • The Sabres were not able to close the gap in set two as Illinois Tech would close out set two on 7-4 run. 
  • Marian responded to start set three with a 5-2 advantage but the Scarlett Hawks answered with a 5-1 run. 
  • An even 3-3 run by both teams was followed up with a dominant 7-1 run by the Sabres.
  • Illinois Tech did not go away and would crawl back into the set with a 6-2 run to cut the Sabre lead to two at 19-17. 
  • Marian took its lead to three at 21-18 which forced a Scarlett Hawks timeout.
  • Illinois Tech came out of the timeout on a 4-1 run to tie things up 22-22.
  • Marian was able to take the next point to go up 23-22 but the Scarlett Hawks closed out set three and the match with three unanswered points.

  • Once again Marian held the advantage in blocks with three to the Scarlett Hawks two. 
  • Illinois Tech held the 34-32 advantage in assists and 37-40 advantage in digs. 
  • Marian forced 12 Scarlett Hawks hitting errors but Illinois Tech held the advantage in hitting percentage .281-.173.

Senior Nick Stasch led the Sabres with 26 assists with one service ace and six digs. 
Senior Cam Muller stayed hot after hitting .737 on Wednesday with a 10 kill performance on .389 percentage. 
Junior Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes added six kills with a solo block and two digs.
