Marian men’s volleyball defeats Lakeland in second night of a back-to-back

Marian University men’s volleyball (14-4, 5-1 NACC) defeated Lakeland on the second night of a back-to-back 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

  • Set one saw the two teams trading points with Marian holding the 7-5 advantage before the Muskies would go on a 7-2 run to take a 12-9 lead.
  • A few service errors hurt the Sabres in set one as Lakeland was able to push its lead to five at 16-11. 
  • Marian did not go away quietly after using a 5-2 run to cut the Muskie lead to two.
  • Lakeland answered the Sabre run by closing out set one on a 7-1 run. 
  • Set two saw the Sabres jump out to an early 4-0 lead and would push its lead to five with a 6-5 advantage at 10-5. 
  • Marian gained momentum from the early start in set two and used a 5-2 run to take its largest lead of the set. 
  • The Muskies crawled back into set two with a 7-2 run to cut the Sabre lead to three. 
  • Marian controlled the remainder of set two with a 7-5 advantage. 
  • The Sabres once again got out to an early lead with a 5-2 run before Lakeland tied things up 5-5. 
  • The two teams would go on to trade points with multiple tie scores before the Sabres regained a three point lead 16-13. 
  • The Muskies brought the score within one at 18-17 but a dominant late run saw the Sabres take set three with a 7-3 advantage. 
  • Set four saw the Muskies get out to the slim 5-4 lead before Marian would go on a 6-2 run .
  • The Sabres would carry over the momentum from the previous sets as Marian would not surrender its lead the remainder of the set. 
  • A 6-4 run by the Sabres took the lead to 16-11 which was followed up by a competitive stretch which saw the Muskies hold the slim 7-6 advantage.
  • The Sabre lead proved insurmountable as the two teams would finish out set four and the match on an even 4-4 with Marian on top.

  • Both defenses were strong as Marian held the 11-8 advantage at the net in blocks while Lakeland held the 56-51 advantage in digs. 
  • Lakeland was able to edge out the Sabres from the service line 10-5 but Marian forced 31 Muskie hitting errors to the Sabres 20. 
  • Marian has now won five straight against Lakeland.

Senior Cam Muller recorded a team-high 12 digs on an efficient .360 hitting while adding eight block assists. 
Junior Trent Goo Sun had a strong day from the back row with 12 digs and four assists. 
Junior Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes added six kills on .400 hitting while recording seven block assists.
