Marian men’s volleyball cruises past Maranatha Baptist with a sweep

Marian University men’s volleyball (6-1, 0-0 NACC) sweeps Maranatha Baptist 25-17, 25-8, and 25-14.

  • Set one opened up with the two teams trading points with the Sabres holding the slim 8-7 advantage before going on a 4-0 run to extend its lead to five.  
  • A 4-2 run by the Sabercats was answered by the Sabres with another 4-0 run. 
  • Marian would close out set one with the 8-7 advantage.
  • Set two saw the Sabres jump out to a fast 5-1 lead and pushed its lead to six forcing a Sabercat timeout at 8-2.
  • The Sabres used a 6-2 run to extend its lead to 10 and would continue to dominate in set two. 
  • Maranatha Baptist was not able to get anything going against a stout Sabre defense as Marian would end the game with an 11-2 run to easily take set two.
  • Marian got out to a 5-1 lead to start set three and once again extended its lead to six at 8-2.
  • The Sabres used the momentum to go on a 8-4 run before Maranatha Baptist answered with its own 8-4 run. 
  • Marian remained in complete control and would cruise to a set three and match victory behind a 5-0 run.

  • The Sabres dominated in all areas leading in every statistical category with the largest advantage in assists 33-15 and kills 34-19.
  • Marian held the Sabercats to negative hitting to make it two matches in a row achieving this feat.
  • The service line proved to be a lethal weapon for the Sabres after recording a season-high 12 aces.

Junior Isaac Dreifuerst led the Sabre offense with eight kills on .615 hitting and added three service aces.
Sophomore CJ Kendrick paced the backrow for the Sabres with nine digs.
Freshman Carter Shogren led the Sabres in aces with four and blocks with three while adding four kills in his first career start.
