Marian men’s volleyball bounces back with win over Lakeland

Marian University men’s volleyball (8-7, 2-2 NACC) bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Lakeland 19-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.

  • After a 10-10 start to the opening set Lakeland was able to score five of the next six points to lead by four.
  • A 6-2 run later in the set allowed the Muskies to pull away and take the opener.
  • The Muskies had a slim 5-4 lead to start the second before Marian went on a 5-1 run to lead 9-6.
  • The Sabres brought that lead out to 14-12 before pulling away with a 5-2 spurt.
  • Marian was able to finish strong closing out the set with another 5-1 run.
  • The third set started with a 15-15 stalemate but Marian was able to put together another strong finish to the set going on a 9-2 run to reach set point.
  • Lakeland fought off three set points before Marian took a 2-1 advantage.
  • The back-and-forth begins continued in the fourth with Marian leading 14-13 before building a six-point lead with a 6-1 run.
  • This run proved to be the difference as Marian would lead by at least four points the rest of the way en route to the win.

  • Lakeland finished with a 43-42 edge in kills and 54-42 advantage for digs.
  • Marian had a big match from the service line recording 11 aces.
  • The Muskies hit .333 in the opening set before the Marian defense limited Lakeland to .123 hitting the rest of the way.
  • The Sabres are now 8-8 all-time against Lakeland with wins in the last six meetings.

Senior Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes had five kills to go with four service aces, four total blocks, and five digs.
Senior Derek Wills posted a match-high 13 kills and had three total blocks.
Senior Isaac Dreifuerst added 10 kills.
