Marian men’s volleyball bounces back with convincing win over UW-Stevens Point

Marian University men’s volleyball (4-1, 0-0 NACC) defeats UW-Stevens Point in four sets 25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21.

  • UW-Stevens Point started the night on a 7-3 run to open set one before Marian used a 5-2 run to cut the Pointers lead to one. 
  • The Pointers would go on a 4-1 run to extend its lead back out to four but the Sabres answered with 4-0 run to tie things up 14-14.
  • UW-Stevens Point regained the lead and used a 7-5 run to take the score to 21-19 before the Sabres used a 6-0 run to come all the way back and steal set one. 
  • Set two saw the teams trading points with the Pointers holding the slight 10-9 advantage before going on a 4-0 run.
  • The Sabres would not go away quietly as a 5-2 run would bring Marian within two.
  • The Points used a 10-7 run to close out set two.
  • A similar script occurred to start set three as the two teams would trade points with Marian holding the 7-6 advantage.
  • A 6-1 run would put the Sabres ahead 13-7 with all the momentum.
  • Marian would use the momentum to go on a slight 7-5 run before closing set three out on an efficient 4-0 run.
  •  UW-Stevens Point would open set four on a quick 4-1 advantage before the Sabres would tie things up 5-5. 
  • The two teams would continue to trade points with the Pointers holding the 6-5 advantage.
  • The Pointers would extend its lead to three at 16-13 but the Sabres answered with a 7-3 run to take the lead late in set four. 
  • Marian was able to close out set four and the match with a 5-2 run after forcing multiple Pointers hitting errors.

  • Both teams had 21 hitting errors but the Sabres held a big advantage in kills 50-38.
  • The Sabres had the 48-33 advantage in assists and a 59-50 advantage in digs. 
  • Marian held UW-Stevens Point to negative hitting in set three and .134 overall.

Senior Aaron Velasco followed up his first double-double of the season with a similar outing recording 17 kills and 15 digs.   
Junior Dante Pulphus recorded double digit digs for the first time this season with 10.  
Senior Nick Stasch has reached at least 30 kills in four of the teams first five matches after recording 39 tonight.
