Marian men’s soccer predicted seventh in NACC preseason poll

Marian University men’s soccer received 195 total points to finish the NACC preseason poll in seventh place, as voted on by the head coaches and sports information directors of the conference.

A competitive 2022 season saw eight teams finish within three points of each other, and the preseason poll as a result, was similarly close.  MSOE was picked as the league favorite after receiving 12 first place votes and 316 total points.  Aurora was next at 305 with eight first place votes.  Dominican finished at 282 and five first place votes, while Concordia Wisconsin was tied for fifth with a first place vote and 242 total points.  The Spartans, Falcons, and Raiders, all claimed a share of the NACC Championship a season ago with Aurora winning the tournament and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Benedictine tied CUW with 242 points with St. Norbert following at 216 and the final school with more than 200 total points.  Marian followed at 195 with Wisconsin Lutheran behind the Sabres with 165.  IIT was the final school with more than 100 points at 136 followed by Rockford and Concordia Chicago.  Lakeland and Edgewood rounded out the preseason poll.

Marian reached double-digit wins for only the third time in the NACC era last season after going 10-7-2.  Marian set a NACC record for wins in conference play after posting a 7-3-2 record, just one point shy of earning a share of a NACC Championship.  This earned Marian the No. 4 seed for the NACC Tournament and a chance to host a postseason game for the first time since 2004.

Marian opens the season at UW-Whitewater Friday, Sept. 1 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
