Marian men’s soccer posts clean sheet against Benedictine

Marian University men’s soccer (3-10-3, 2-7-1 NACC) posted its second clean sheet of the season in a spirited 3-0 win over Benedictine.

  • With the wind at their backs in the first half, Marian was able to control the match early.
  • Junior Nathan Blazenko was able to take advantage scoring at the 18:33 mark with an assist from JT Sus.
  • Benedictine controlled the pace of play over the final 20 minutes but Marian was able to hold the Eagles scoreless heading into halftime.
  • Despite playing against the wind, the Sabre defense dominated in the second half.
  • Freshman Brayden Johnson was able to extend the Marian lead at the 76:59 with his first goal as a Sabre.
  • Then with just 1:55 left, fellow freshman Mason Radulski went the distance of the field and split the defense before sneaking a shot inside the left post to ice the game.
  • The goal was his second of the season adn put the final tally at 3-0.

  • Marian finished with a 13-6 advantage for shots and 9-5 edge for shots on goal.
  • The Sabres outshot the Eagles 8-1 over the final 45 minutes.
  • Marian held a slim edge in corner kicks by a 7-5 clip.
  • The Sabres were called for 16 fouls and had two yellow cards, while Benedictine had 13 fouls to go with four bookings.
  • Marian is now 5-14-1 all-time against Benedictine with this being the first Sabre shutout since a scoreless draw in 2009.
