Marian Men’s Soccer Handles Rockford for First NACC Win

Marian University men’s soccer (2-7-3, 1-4-1 NACC) earned its first NACC win of the season defeating Rockford 3-1 at home.

  • The wind played a factor all day and it helped Marian dominate the opening set.
  • The Sabres were able to open the scoring in the 32nd minute when junior Nathan Blazenko buried took a pass from freshman Mason Radulski and found the back of the net.
  • This proved to be all the scoring for the first 45 minutes.
  • A hand ball in the box in the 67th minute gave Blazenko his second goal of the game off of the ensuing penalty kick.
  • Senior Connor Powers and freshman Olav Frederiksen came on at the 75:19 mark and just 38 seconds teamed up for a goal with Powers scoring his first of the season.
  • Rockford was able to end the shutout with just 6:00 left but the Sabres were able to hold on for the win.

  • Marian finished with a 12-5 advantage for shots and an 8-1 edge for shots on goal.
  • The Sabres finished with a slim 6-4 edge for corner kicks.
  • Marian had 14 fouls and a yellow card to 11 fouls for the Regents.
  • The Sabres improve to 11-2-3 all-time against Rockford and have a three-match unbeaten streak.
