Marian men’s lacrosse wins defensive battle at CUC

Marian University men’s lacrosse (3-9, 2-5 NACC) earned its first road win of the season defeating Concordia Chicago 7-4.

  • The Sabres were able to jump out quickly scoring four goals in the first quarter and holding Concordia Chicago scoreless.
  • Graduate student Erik Horman would score three of the Marian goals, one being a man-up score.
  • The Cougars were able to score three of the first four goals in the second quarter to only trail 5-3.
  • Horman gave Marian an extra cushion scoring his second man-up goal with one minute until halftime to put the Sabres up 6-3 at the break.
  • The second half was all about the defense as each team would net one goal in the final 30 minutes.
  • Concordia Chicago would score its goal with 8:53 left in the third quarter.
  • Then just 1:45 later, sophomore Devon Butler would find the back of the net for the final goal of the game.
  • Sophomore Jackson Sweeney would make three saves in the final stanza for his second scoreless quarter of the victory.

  • Marian finished with a 43-34 edge in shots and had double-digit shots in three of the four quarters.
  • The Sabre defense was able to force 19 Cougar turnovers.
  • Marian had a small advantage in ground balls at 23-20.
  • Concordia Chicago won 10 of the 15 face offs.
  • Marian improves to 6-0 all-time against Concordia Chicago.

Graduate student Erik Horman scored four goals and finished with five points.
Sophomore Shay Nolen had a game-high five ground balls and caused a turnover.
